This year, the celebrated Synapsis Creative Christmas Game multiverse expands with the release of ‘Santa’s Silent Flight’, an interactive escape room created entirely in PowerPoint!

To celebrate the launch, we’re giving you a behind-the-scenes-look at how we built on our previous two games to create a more immersive and challenging gaming experience for 2021.

Our original game, ‘Help Santa Save Synapcity’, was created partly out of a desire to spread some festive fun amongst our clients and friends, and partly to flex our creative muscles by pushing the boundaries of PowerPoint’s capabilities. The narrative followed Santa’s journey from the North Pole to the neighbourhood of Synapcity, and featured three levels of interactive gameplay. Our designers came up with a range of stunning visual assets to bring the game to life, creating a veritable winter wonderland for players to explore.

If you missed out on playing our 2019 game, don’t worry! It’s available for download here on our website. (Make sure you go full-screen for that last level – it’s pretty gnarly.)

Mindful of the disruption and uncertainty 2020 had brought so many people, we were determined to improve on the success of our first game with the sequel ‘Santa Saves Synapcity 2: Someone’s Sabotaged Santa’s Sleigh’. Combining our existing assets with new developments in gameplay modes and a compelling plot, we created our Dr. Seuss-inspired spin on a classic ‘whodunit’ in which the player had to uncover the culprit using visual and narrative clues. For a more immersive experience, we included character customisation, allowing players to create their own unique avatar to experience the world of Santa’s workshop.

Want to check out our 2020 game for yourself? No worries, go right ahead. We hope you enjoy the incredible alliteration!

With only a few weeks between the first concept design and delivering the completed game in time for the launch, we set ourselves our greatest challenge yet in 2021. ‘Santa’s Silent Flight’ is the culmination of everything we loved from the first two games, incorporating our favourite visual assets, a clever rhyming scheme bursting with Christmas-themed puns, and five interactive minigames for players to conquer.

Originally, our designers pitched four concepts to the team: helping Santa prepare for Christmas, accompanying Santa as he delivers presents, finding a runaway reindeer in the Antarctic wilderness, and an escape room. This last concept really captured our imaginations, and we ended up combining our best ideas to create the final narrative. Santa is on his rounds on Christmas Eve, and stops to deliver presents at the house of twin troublemakers Jack and Amelia Brown. Once the kids capture Santa in the basement, it’s up to the player to help him escape by completed timed tasks of increasing difficulty, including picking locks, swiping cookies, avoiding suspicious parents, and making a clean getaway on his sleigh.

With high stakes, beautiful visuals, innovative level design, and all the excitement of a real escape room, Santa’s Silent Flight is sure to get you into the holiday spirit. From the crew at Synapsis Creative, we hope that your holiday is truly merry and bright this year. We’ll be back in 2022 for new adventures into the world of PowerPoint. Until then, keep safe and please share our game with anyone who needs some holiday cheer.
