Respect – if you’ve gone this far. It’s my last report and this time I don’t want to talk just about my internship. In fact, I would like to share my overall experiences of the last 13 weeks in Australia and at Synapsis Creative.
In a way, it was a leap into the deep end. I had absolutely no idea what to expect. Neither in Australia, nor at Synapsis Creative. But I don’t think I could have done better.
In my life, I have travelled a lot, got to know different countries, cities and people, but only one continent: Europe. My first trip outside of Europe should take me straight to the other side of the world. And not for two weeks of vacation, but for 3 months of internship. And in my eyes, it is a complete success.
Let’s start with the Australian people. I think they are the friendliest, most helpful and most open-minded I have ever met. Especially when you come to another country on your own, this is a big advantage. Not a single conversation I have in my memory is negative. I remember the first time in my life I went to a bar on my own my first weekend in Sydney. It didn’t take me 10 minutes to get involved in the first conversation that finally ended up at a house party. In Germany, I might still be standing at the bar right now.
What a beautiful country you have?! Well, since it’s so damn big, I’ve probably seen only one per cent of Australia. But this one per cent is already enough to lead my personal ranking of the most beautiful countries. The Opera House in Sydney, Manly Beach and the amazing city view from North Head, camping with some of my colleagues in the Blue Mountains, the rough and beautiful cliffs in Tasmania, snorkelling at the Great Barrier Reef…It is not possible for me to name a favourite. I definitely want to come back and see another one per cent of this great country!
Is anything missing? Oh, yeah, there was also some work. As promised I won’t talk about single tasks of my internship. I think 5 reports are more than enough. I just wanna say THANKS! It has been a pleasure to work with you guys for 3 months! I wasn’t bored, didn’t have to make coffee or sort any files. I learned a lot, was later able to apply this knowledge independently and also managed smaller projects – and then there was coffee!
What else do you want? A team that doesn’t consider you as an intern, to whom you give the tasks that you don’t want to do yourself. A team in which you feel comfortable from the very first day, from whom you could learn a lot and with whom you also spent some of your free time. All this I had here at Synapsis Creative. THANK YOU, GUYS!
Now I have a few days off to enjoy my last days here in Sydney until my flight goes on 3rd of October. Back in Germany, I will continue my studies so that I will graduate with a master’s degree in 2020. After that, I will attend some military training before I will fulfil my real purpose as an officer of the German Armed Forces.
I would like to end with a quote from one of the greatest philosophers of all time:
